Argentina’s president Alberto Fernández is urging the national Congress to approve a law this year that would establish a legal framework for the production and sale of medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp.

In his national address before members of both houses of Congress – the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies – on 1st March, Fernández, who has supported expansion of the hemp industry to aid economic recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic, listed passage of the cannabis and hemp law as his top priority for the legislature’s 2022 sessions, which run until 30th November. He said approval of the law would benefit the country for years to come.
