EIHA’s ‘reasonable daily intake’ sows confusion over novel food applications

CBD isolate producers in the UK are waiting to see whether and how the new toxicological data released earlier this month by the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) will affect their applications to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for novel food authorisation.

Based on the toxicological studies it conducted, the EIHA, whose consortium of 170 members applied to both the FSA and the European Food Safety Authority (Efsa), set the reasonable level of CBD intake at 17.5 mg per day, well below the 70 mg FSA considers to be an acceptable daily intake.
