New Zealand regulatory snapshot

CBD is classed in New Zealand as a medical substance, available only on a doctor’s prescription.

The only part of the hemp plant that can be used in food is the seeds.

Hemp seeds used in food cannot have more than 75 mg/kg (0.0075%) of CBD.

Cosmetics and e-cigarettes must be CBD-free.

Industrial hemp with less than 0.35%-0.5% THC can be cultivated with a licence.

There may be a referendum on recreational cannabis use within the next two years.
