South Africa inches forward towards long-awaited clarification on cannabis

The South African cannabis bill has finally advanced a stage with an invitation by the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services to “stakeholders and interested persons” to submit written submissions on proposed amendments.

Submissions on the Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill must be received by Parliament by 28th April. The suggested amendments would broaden the scope of the bill to include provisions relating to the commercialisation of hemp.
