Voters in Michigan have voted to legalise the recreational use of cannabis, while those in North Dakota rejected it. In Utah and Missouri medical cannabis use was approved on the day the US turned out to vote in the midterm elections.
Michigan voters passed an initiative on recreational use with just shy of 57% approval. The initiative was considered generally permissive. Its passing will make it legal in the state for those over 21 to buy and possess 2.5oz. It also enacted a 10% excise sales tax.
