The US Congress has approved a compromise version of the 2018 Farm Bill which will remove industrial hemp from the federal narcotics Schedule 1 list.
The House voted on Wednesday to approve the bill, following its approval in the Senate the previous day.
The conference report for the bill defines hemp as “the plant cannabis sativa L, or any part of that plant, including seeds, derivatives, and extracts, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”
The report also says that it is “hemp, as defined in section 297A of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946” that is descheduled from the Controlled Substances Act Schedule 1 definition of “marihuana”.
