5th December 2023: Romania: An HHC manufacturing company has been sanctioned, has had its entire staff arrested and its products seized after being accused of constituting an "organised criminal group", press reports. The company is accused of manufacturing products "likely to have psychoactive effects". The company claims that it was licensed and that it was complying with fiscal obligations. It also said the Ministry of Health had previously informed it that HHC was legal. The company's activity will be suspended until the legal dispute ends.
16th March 2023: Romania: A bill on medical cannabis is being debated by the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. The bill was introduced in 2019 and approved by the Senate, but it has not yet been adopted by the Chamber of Deputies. The chances of its being passed are good, given that all major political parties have expressed their intention of voting in favour of the bill, press reports. It would establish the legal framework for cannabis, cannabis derivatives and preparations used for medical purposes. It would also regulate the cultivation, processing, distribution and control of medical cannabis.
23rd November 2022: Romania: The Chamber of Deputies was today debating the regulation of medical cannabis, press reports. In a conference organised by the Health Committee, some doctors and representatives of medical associations highlighted the benefits of medical cannabis. However, no agreement was reached to unblock a bill on medical cannabis that was introduced in 2019, or to introduce a new one.
