- Suriname: The National Assembly approved the Industrial Hemp Cultivation Act on 1st September, allowing the cultivation of industrial hemp with a maximum THC content of 1%. Hemp cultivation in Suriname will be supervised and checked by the National Institute for Industrial Hemp Cultivation. The Dutch-speaking republic of Suriname is the smallest sovereign state in South America, with a population of about 600,000.

The representative of the opposition National Democratic Party is opposed to this move, saying it would lead to abuse and that it goes against international standards (0.2% or 0.3%), media reports.
