The Canadian government has launched its long-awaited review of the country’s cannabis law, saying the existing legislation is a good start but needs to be improved.
The government has decided to expand the review’s focus to include aspects of the current law such as providing for the legal production of cannabis to reduce illegal supplies, how to deter illegal cannabis through enforcement measures, reducing the burden on the criminal justice system, and providing access to a quality-controlled cannabis supply. However, it could take some time before the review results in practical changes.
