International packaging and disposal standards give guide to compliance

Proper disposal of cannabis raw materials forms a major part of new work from ASTM International, US-based developer of international voluntary technical standards.

The standard D8245 gives guidelines for disposing of cannabis raw materials and products containing resins. This was an area in which there were previously no unified guidelines, according to Darwin Millard, a member of the ASTM committee on cannabis.

It will help CBD companies to maintain compliance with laws governing what parts of the plant can be used for CBD extraction, said Millard, co-founder of cannabis production consultancy PhytoLogix.

“Ultimately, our hope is that cannabis producers will no longer have to treat the entire plant as a controlled substance,” he added.
