Mexico’s president considered positive for cannabis sector, trouble for vape market

The election of Claudia Sheinbaum as Mexico’s first-ever female president is being celebrated by members of the national cannabis industry as a positive step towards potential legalisation. However, it is seen as a negative result for the e-cigarette sector, given her support for a constitutional ban on vapes and similar devices.

Sheinbaum was elected on 2nd June in a landslide result that will give her party, Morena, a legislative supermajority in the Chamber of Deputies – where the ruling coalition will hold 372 of the 500 seats, and a majority in the Senate – with 83 of the 128 seats.
