US House approves cannabis research bill but hopes for reform remain low

Members of the US House of Representatives have approved a bill to expand and streamline research into CBD and cannabis. The bill is now heading for the Senate and is expected to reach president Joe Biden’s desk.

The House considered the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act under a process known as suspension of the rules, which is generally used to pass non-controversial bills quickly. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by representatives Earl Blumenauer, a Democrat from Oregon, and Maryland Republican Andy Harris and passed on a vote of 325-95.
