EU battery regulation: new requirements for portable batteries, November 2023

The new regulation on batteries, with the aim of making them more sustainable, was published in the EU Official Journal in July 2023. It entered into force in August 2023, but is not applicable until 18th February 2024, with a number of different provisions applying at later dates.

This regulation will repeal the current EU batteries directive and will apply directly to all EU member states. The regulation introduces additional sustainability rules for batteries to those already introduced in the directive.
