New opportunities emerge in European cannabis markets

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Business opportunities start to appear in

European legal cannabis markets

Recent initiatives on legalising cannabis in four European countries have put the spotlight on the commercial potential of the cannabis market.

Germany, Malta, the Netherlands and Switzerland have all recently reformed their laws on recreational cannabis. The new rules differ from country to country, but they include permitting personal possession, home cultivation, cannabis clubs and/or pilot programmes to allow access to cannabis for non-medical purposes.

And legalisation models like these bring several commercial opportunities, according to a new report from CannIntelligence.

They include heightened demand for cultivation equipment, seeds, tracking software, packaging solutions, dispensary operations and even educational services.

“European countries were slow to roll out legal frameworks for cannabis, amid concerns over whether doing so was compatible with EU and international law. But now a European model of recreational cannabis legalisation is emerging, not only in these four countries but also through other developments such as Spain’s unregulated cannabis clubs,” said Barnaby Page, editorial director of CannIntelligence.

“It’s becoming possible to see how both the regulatory framework might develop, and how there could be positive business effects in a wide range of sectors,” he added.
