EU agriculture committee approves proposal to raise THC limit to 0.3%

European hemp producers have secured another step toward raising permitted THC levels.

The European Parliament’s agriculture committee has approved proposals to put forward an amendment allowing hemp farmers to grow varieties with as much as 0.3% THC.

The proposed amendment in the upcoming reform of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), to come into effect on 1st January 2021, would increase the limit from the 0.2% THC level set in the current version.

As amended, it now reads: “Areas used for the production of hemp shall only be eligible hectares if the varieties used have a tetrahydrocannabinol [THC] content not exceeding 0.3 %.”
