Lithuania: The Seimas (parliament) has approved the government’s 12-year agenda on drug, tobacco and alcohol control, which aims to reduce supply and consumption, media reports. The document recommends that controls should be prepared and implemented at municipal level with the aim of reducing use of psychoactive substances and their supposed “precursors”.

Lithuania: The Department of Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol Control (NTAKD) supports an initiative to decriminalise the possession of small amounts of cannabis, media reports. The Seimas (parliament) decided last month that the necessary amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences and the Criminal Code would be considered again.

Lithuania: The Seimas (parliament) is to reconsider decriminalising possession of small quantities of cannabis. Members yesterday accepted the Ethics and Procedures Committee’s view that parliamentary rules had been broken when proposed amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences were voted down in December, media reports.

Lithuania: The State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) has held talks on the most common mistakes in the advertising of hemp-derived products, media reports. It is urging manufacturers and advertisers to comply with the specific product requirements, including on composition, labelling, purpose of use etc, to make sure consumers are not misled and that advertised products can be legally sold.

Lithuania: Vice-chairman Jurgis Razma says the Seimas (parliament) will decide on a recommendation by the Ethics and Procedures Commission to hold another vote at the beginning of the spring session on a bill to decriminalise cannabis, media reports. The bill would replace criminal liability with fines for the possession of small amounts of cannabis.

Lithuania: The parliamentary Law and Order Committee yesterday decided to seek expert evaluation of bills to decriminalise cannabis, media reports. Scientists from the universities of Vilnius, Mykolas Romeris, Vytautas the Great and Klaipėda, and the Social Sciences Centre Institute of Law, will be asked to evaluate amendments to the Administrative Offences and Criminal Codes.
