9th April 2024: Malawi: Last week, Parliament passed private members’ bill 1 of 2024: Cannabis Regulation Amendment, which allows for the regulation of locally produced cannabis. It is not clear for what purposes, but CannIntelligence understands it is for medical and industrial purposes. Speaker of the House Richard Chimwendo clarified that the bill does not allow for the cultivation of cannabis without a licence and that being found in possession of cannabis remains an offence. No further details of the bill were given. The bill still needs to be assented to by the president.
