New Mexico: Market and legal data analysis of the cannabis sector

5th March 2024: US - New Mexico: Senate Bill (SB) 6 has been signed by the governor. Among other actions, SB 6 would update the state’s cannabis statute, prohibit drive-through windows at dispensaries, and add certain labelling restrictions to cannabis products, such as a prohibition on using cartoons or celebrities on packaging.
14th February 2024: US - New Mexico: Senate Bill (SB) 6 has been passed by the Senate and now heads to the House. Among other things, SB 6 would update its cannabis statute, prohibit drive-through windows at dispensaries, and add certain labelling restrictions to cannabis products, such as a prohibition on using cartoons or celebrities on packaging.
6th February 2024: US - New Mexico: Senate Bill (SB) 6 has been passed by the Senate and now moves to the House. SB 6 would make several minor amendments to the state's recreational cannabis laws, including amendments in the areas of packaging, consumption spaces, and licensee background checks.
18th May 2023: US - New Mexico: Insomnia has been added to the state’s Medical Cannabis Program list of qualifying conditions for enrolment, starting 1st June. The announcement by the New Mexico Department of Health follows an individual petition and brings to 30 the list of qualifying conditions in the state.
11th April 2023: US - New Mexico: House Bill 314 has been signed into law by governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, strengthening the effectiveness of automatic expungements for prior cannabis convictions. It specifically allows individuals to request expedited expungement if eligible cannabis charges are still pending.
9th March 2023: US - New Mexico: House Bill (HB) 313 has passed the House and now moves to the Senate. HB 313, among other provisions, would create a new cannabis nursery licence, change the plant count limit for micro-businesses and make it unlawful to synthesise any tetrahydrocannabinol without prior approval.
19th December 2022: US - New Mexico: The New Mexico Department of Health has announced that it has accepted the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board's recommendation to add anxiety disorder to the state's list of qualifying conditions for which medical cannabis can be prescribed. The addition will take effect on 1st January 2023.
1st April 2022: US - New Mexico: Legal recreational cannabis sales begin today in New Mexico. The New Mexico Cannabis Control Division lists over 200 active cannabis producer and retailer licences in the state.
24th February 2022: New Mexico: The New Mexico Supreme Court declined to hear a case in which the lower court found that the New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department (NMTRD) could not reject gross receipts tax deductions from suppliers of medical cannabis, local media reports. The NMTRD will reportedly begin processing refund claims dating back to 2014.
15th February 2022: New Mexico: Senate Bill 100 has been passed by the Senate and now moves to the House. It would increase the number of mature cannabis plants that a microbusiness licensee may possess from 200 to 1,000, clarify that cannabis and alcoholic drinks may not be sold at the same location, and set training requirements and a minimum age of 21 for licensee employees.
