Singapore: At the DrugsFreeSG Conference, second minister for home affairs Josephine Teo
expressed criticism towards the lenient cannabis legislation in certain countries, and emphasised the detrimental effects on mental and physical health. Teo referenced instances of drug abuse and violent criminal acts where individuals had consumed cannabis. She further asserted that countries that had legalised cannabis are currently experiencing increasing difficulties in regulating its consumption. Despite a more lenient stance on cannabis among Singapore’s younger demographic, the minister maintained that a strict ban remains the most effective approach to safeguard the population from the potential adverse effects of cannabis.
