The Jamaican government has announced economic support for small-scale medicinal cannabis producers to assuage industry members angered by a recent permit allowing cannabis imports from Canada.
Aubyn Hill, the minister for industry, investment and commerce, said 16 communities and 128 small cannabis farmers would be targeted for support over the next three to four years under the government’s Alternative Development Programme, which aims to eliminate illicit cultivation of cannabis by transitioning farmers into the legally regulated industry.
