Regulatory report: Brazil, October 2020

Similar to other countries that prohibit commercial usage of hemp, in Brazil the Drug Control Law bans handling of Cannabis sativa species except when authorised by the government. This type of regulatory framework does not provide sufficient security necessary for development of a local hemp industry. Hemp usage is authorised by the judiciary on a case-by-case basis, however commercial use of hemp may become possible if the latest version of Bill No. 309/2015 is adopted. This report covers all current restrictions on hemp and its products, while also including analysis of the possible near-future regulations that could come into force if the bill is adopted.
