Views invited as Health Canada moves on prescription-free CBD product sales

Canada has moved a step closer to allowing some health products containing CBD to be sold without a prescription.

Health Canada has launched a consultation in a bid to develop regulations allowing CBD “as a medicinal ingredient in certain health products for human use,” regulated under the Food and Drugs Act.

CBD products are currently sold in Canada in stores authorised to sell cannabis products, but health claims cannot be made for them. Patients can also access CBD and other cannabis products by prescription from a healthcare practitioner.
