In 2023, Brazil became the largest market for Colombia’s thriving cannabis industry, representing 32% of Colombia’s total cannabis exports – around $3.4m. Data from ProColombia and Colombia’s National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) highlights the growing trade between the two nations, driven by regulatory shifts and Colombia’s determination to dominate the international cannabis market.
This surge in exports is the result of strategic political and economic moves in both Brazil and Colombia. Since its inception in 2017 under decree 613, Colombia’s medical cannabis industry has focused heavily on exports due to regulatory gaps that limited domestic growth.
