Argentina: The Ministry of Health issued a resolution yesterday extending from one year to three the validity of home growers’, patients’ and prescribing doctors’ registration for medical cannabis through the Cannabis Programme Registry (Reprocann).

Argentina: A regulation further developing Law 27.669, approved in May 2022, to set up a comprehensive regulatory framework for industrial hemp and medical cannabis, has been approved by the Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medicinal Cannabis Industry (Ariccame) and the economy minister and will be published in the Official Gazette once the president has approved it, press reports. The regulation will allow licensing of the production, distribution and sale of hemp and hemp extracts, with a maximum allowed THC content of 1%.

Argentina: The government today issued a decree launching the Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medicinal Cannabis Industry (Ariccame), responsible for issuing regulations and permits for hemp-growing, and for setting out terms and conditions for the marketing of hemp extracts. Ariccame was established by Law 27,669, which was approved in May 2022 to set up a comprehensive regulatory framework for industrial hemp and medical cannabis.

Argentina: The National Food Commission held a meeting yesterday, chaired by health minister Carla Vizzotti, to explore the possible inclusion of parts, subproducts and derivatives of the Cannabis sativa plant in the National Food Code.

Argentina: The National Service for Food Health and Quality (Senasa) will reportedly convene on 24th and 25th October the first inter-institutional meeting to advance regulation under Law 27,669, enacted in May to establish a regulatory framework for medical cannabis and industrial hemp. The meeting will bring together all institutions involved with the Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medicinal Cannabis Industry (Ariccame), which was established by that law. The regulation developing Law 27,669 must be issued within the next month, as the time limit –180 days from 26th May, the date of publication in the Official Journal – expires soon.

Argentina: The Ministry of Science and Technology yesterday announced the establishment of a national company to promote the development of medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp. The company will sell seeds, offer training to cultivators and processors, and quality services for the manufacture of cannabis-derived products.

Argentina: The National Service for Agri-food Health and Quality (Senasa) yesterday published its Strategic Table for Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp, under which inspections and sanitary control of hemp-derived products will be carried out so they can be placed on the market in compliance with the recently enacted Law 27,669. The table will also help Senasa work with other institutions to devise further frameworks and collaborative programmes to facilitate the development of the control of the hemp and cannabis industry.

Argentina: The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) yesterday published guidelines for licence applications to produce import, export and sell the new category of cannabis-based products that can be used for medical purposes, or “vegetable products based on cannabis and its derivatives intended for use and application in human medicine”. The sale of these products, which may include CBD, delta-8 THC, CBG, CBC and CBN, all with a 0.3% THC limit, will be subject to a doctor’s prescription.
