Mississippi: Market and legal data analysis of the cannabis sector

20th March 2024: US - Mississippi: State lawmakers are concerned that intoxicating, hemp-derived cannabinoid (IHDC) products are being sold at fuel stations and other retail establishments, and have highlighted that kids are not barred enough from buying products like gummies and vapes containing forms of THC, media reports. Republican state representative Lee Yancey said: “Principals were complaining to me that kids are vaping delta-8, delta-10 all day – and are high all day – and get it at the gas station.” State regulators are addressing the uncertainty caused by the lack of clear federal laws, expressing concerns about the risks associated with an unregulated industry that has emerged openly.
28th March 2023: US – Mississippi: House Bill 1158 has been signed into law by governor Tate Reeves, modifying the state’s medical cannabis laws in various ways. It expressly excludes hemp from medical cannabis requirements, allows dispensaries to sell topical cannabis products to over-21s without medical cannabis cards, and halts a ban on the “display on dispensary websites of pictures of products that the dispensary sells”.
9th March 2023: US - Mississippi: House Bill (HB) 1158 has passed the Senate and now heads to the governor’s desk. HB 1158 would modify the state’s medical cannabis laws in various ways, including expressly excluding hemp from medical cannabis requirements, allowing dispensaries to sell topical cannabis products to adults (21+) without medical cannabis cards, and preventing regulations from prohibiting the “display on dispensary websites of pictures of products that the dispensary sells”.
2nd February 2023: US - Mississippi: House Bill (HB) 1158 was passed by the House and now heads to the Senate. 27th January 2023: US - Mississippi: Medical cannabis sales have officially begun in Mississippi, press reports.
