Vermont: Market and legal data analysis of the cannabis sector

11th June 2024: US - Vermont: House Bill (HB) 612 has become law without the governor’s signature. HB 612 makes several amendments to the state’s cannabis law, including adding ulcerative colitis to the list of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis, removing THC caps on cannabis flower and concentrates for medical cannabis, and allowing the Cannabis Control Board to deem some hemp products prohibited or as cannabis products.
13th May 2024: US - Vermont: House Bill (HB) 612 was passed by the Senate and now heads to the governor for final approval. HB 612 would make several amendments to the state's cannabis law, including adding ulcerative colitis to the list of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis, removing THC caps on cannabis flower and concentrates for medical cannabis, and allowing the Cannabis Control Board to deem some hemp products prohibited or as cannabis products.
28th March 2024: US - Vermont: Bill H 612 has been passed by the House and now heads to the Senate. H 612 would redefine some hemp products as cannabis products depending on the product’s intoxicating effects, eliminate THC caps on cannabis flower and solid and liquid concentrates. According to the bill, hemp products "do not include any substance, manufacturing intermediary, or product that: (i) is prohibited or deemed a regulated cannabis product by administrative rule of the Cannabis Control Board; or (ii) contains more than 0.3 percent total tetrahydrocannabinol on a dry-weight basis".
3rd October 2022: US - Vermont: Recreational cannabis sales in Vermont began in dispensaries on 1st October. Only three retail licences have been issued to date.
15th July 2022: US - Vermont: The Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets will withdraw its approved hemp plan from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the end of the year, meaning that the USDA will oversee the state’s hemp production beginning in 2023. Cultivators can continue to operate under the state plan until then but will need to apply directly to the USDA to cultivate in 2023.
26th May 2022: US - Vermont: Senate Bill 188 has been passed by the legislature and sent to the governor for final approval. It would allow the Vermont Cannabis Control Board to regulate hemp-derived cannabinoids, specifically including CBD, delta-8 and delta-10 THC, that are sold in medical and recreational cannabis dispensaries, among other things.
