Increase in prescriptions of unlicensed medical cannabis sparks concern in UK

Unlicensed medical cannabis prescriptions in the UK private medical sector have increased by nearly 120% between 2022 and 2023, raising concerns in the healthcare industry over prescribers’ practices.

Based on the UK Care Quality Commission (CQC) annual report on “the safer management of controlled drugs”, private medical facilities in the country increasingly prescribe cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs), which are mostly unlicensed.
