Legalising cannabis ‘will burden German health system,’ says Bavarian minister

Cannabis consumption is a growing problem in Bavaria and its planned legalisation in Germany would further burden the country’s health system, Bavarian health minister Klaus Holetschek says. 

He made the remarks weeks after urging the European Commission to quash the German government’s plan to pass a law permitting recreational cannabis use. Holetschek is a member of the opposition centre-right Christian Social Union in Bavaria, which – like many people in the state – is particularly conservative on religious and law-enforcement matters.
