State legislatures urge Washington to support moves to legalise cannabis

The Republican-influenced National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has explicitly called on the US federal government to support cannabis legalisation measures.

The influential and respected bipartisan organisation was founded in 1975 to foster interstate cooperation and represent states in dealings with Washington. But since membership in the NCSL directly mirrors that of state legislatures, Republicans continue to have the lion’s share of say in how the organisation votes.
