Thailand: CBD and cannabis regulation, October 2023

The entire cannabis plant as well as extracts with up to 0.2% THC were removed from Thailand’s Narcotics Act on 9th June 2022, leading to widespread, virtually unfettered access to cannabis across the country. However, the May 2023 elections led to a new government being installed, with Srettha Thavisin being appointed as the new prime minister in August. Srettha has vowed to end the use of cannabis for recreational purposes and regulate it only for medical purposes within six months.

This report offers detailed analysis of the current regulatory framework in place in Thailand for cannabis and cannabinoids, including CBD and hemp. It covers everything from cultivation and processing to finished products, extracts and import/export.
