The growing number of states, including some of the most conservative ones, that have legalised medical cannabis programmes demonstrates the increased popular support for medical cannabis and its potential benefits.
However, not all medical cannabis programmes are created equal. Many states allow patients to access a full panoply of medical cannabis products with no limit on THC concentration, while others prohibit certain product types and cap the amount of THC that products may contain.
This report analyses the different approaches taken by states over what restrictions they impose on medical cannabis products that patients can buy.
